WHAT WE DO
We design and create the visibility infrastructure of architecture. That is why every project is analyzed in the real context of space: in the movement of people, in daylight and at night, in changing weather conditions, and within the long-term life cycle of buildings.
We verify readability from different distances, proportions in relation to architecture, durability of materials and structures, and the impact of signage on the character of the place.
We treat signage as an element of the visual infrastructure of space. A system that organizes the architectural environment, strengthens the identification of buildings, and allows people to intuitively find their direction. From this perspective, signage ceases to be a single element. It becomes part of a larger system that operates within architecture for many years.
PRETENDE was founded in 2007 on the belief that good signage should not be designed for a moment. It should be designed to function stably over time without requiring revisiting. Because architecture and public space need durable solutions. Solutions that work in an obvious way. Solutions that do not require constant corrections. Solutions that simply fulfill their function. Well-designed signage is not about being visible for a moment. It is about working exactly as intended for years.
WHY WE DO IT
We do this because over the years we have seen how costly a poorly made decision in signage can be. Uneven lighting. Constructions requiring corrections. Letters that lose their proportions after a year, fade, delaminate, or fall off the facade. What was meant to be a closed topic comes back. From the outside, signage appears simple. In reality, it is a combination of architecture, technology, light, material, and installation within one coherent process. When any of these elements is detached from the whole, corrections appear. And corrections cost time, money, and peace of mind.
We know that well-designed and properly executed signage has a real impact on how a company is perceived. It organizes space, builds credibility, and creates a sense of stability. A client should not have to wonder whether the lighting will be even, the structure durable, or the installation problem-free. These decisions should be resolved at the design stage — not return after a year of use.
That is why we do not compete on the lowest price. We compete on the level of responsibility for the final result. If signage is only meant to be an element to hang — the market offers many options. If it is meant to become a lasting part of a company’s identity and function reliably for years — that is exactly why we do what we do.
Our role is to take over that risk and eliminate it before production begins.
WHY IT MATTERS TO US
Because we believe that signage is the face of a company. And a face cannot be accidental. We like taking responsibility for the final result. We are not interested in work done “quickly, just to get it done.” What interests us is the moment when a client looks at their headquarters and thinks: “this finally looks like the brand I am building.”
And years later, they are still proud of it, because the design holds up, the materials maintain their quality, and the whole does not require explanations or corrections. It matters to us also because we are able to connect worlds that are often separated on the market: concept, technology, production, and installation.
When each party is responsible only for their part, responsibility becomes diluted.
With us, the process is one. This gives the client peace of mind. And it gives us satisfaction, because we do not sell ideas — we deliver results. We also care about the uniqueness of our solutions. We look for materials, technologies
and methods of execution that are not available to everyone. Thanks to this, signage is not a copy of a scheme,
but an element of brand identity — professional, durable, and difficult to replicate.
PRETENDE is not a factory of random signs. It is a place where a brand takes form — thoughtfully designed, crafted with character, and created to function for years.
We know that quality is visible immediately, and its absence stays for a long time. A poorly designed sign is not a minor mistake — it is a daily message of neglect. That is why we take personal responsibility for everything we put our name on. Our stake is consistency — between design and execution, between promise and result, between visualization and reality over time. If something does not meet the standard, we prefer to improve it, redesign it, or reject it, rather than deliver a solution we would not want to be associated with. We exist not because “it can be sold,” but because we believe in the value of well-designed and honestly executed visual communication. We care about precision, responsibility, and consistency, because these build trust in a brand. And trust is the only currency that truly works over the years.
